Summary

This is a technical guidance note explaining the automated validation and verification checks that run when Overseas/other international banks (OIBs) submit the '9.5 DCS Data' sheet as part of their prudential reporting to the JFSC. It describes how the Excel template restricts data entry and how the JFSC checks submissions, rather than imposing new policy requirements.

  • Monetary amount limits: Cells for monetary amounts only accept whole numbers between -1,000,000,000 and +1,000,000,000, representing values up to plus or minus £1 trillion since the reporting unit is £1,000.
  • Excel validation is not a failsafe: Built-in Excel checks only apply on direct manual input, so OIBs are expected to check their own data quality before submission.
  • Submission-time checks: When the template is submitted, the JFSC runs checks; if all pass, the submission is accepted and the OIB is notified together with any warnings.
  • Error identification: Each validation test has a unique 'Check' number referenced in any failure message so the OIB can match it to the relevant row in this guidance's table.
  • Specific cell checks listed: The note tabulates eight specific validation checks (Checks 1 to 8) covering the Current Value and Last Quarter cells for Items A through D on the '9.5 DCS Data' sheet.

The guidance is purely explanatory of the mechanics of the reporting template's data checks and does not create new substantive prudential reporting obligations beyond ensuring accurate, correctly formatted data entry.

Key obligations

  • OIBs should check the accuracy and format of their own data before submitting the '9.5 DCS Data' sheet, since Excel's built-in validation is not a failsafe.
  • Monetary amount entries on the '9.5 DCS Data' sheet must be whole numbers within the range -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000 (representing up to plus or minus £1 trillion given the £1,000 unit).

Applies to

OIBs (entities subject to the JFSC's prudential reporting requirements)
