Summary

This is a technical guidance note explaining the automated validation and verification checks that run when an OIB (the entity type reporting under the JFSC's prudential reporting regime) submits the '8.4 Lending by Sector' sheet of its prudential return. It documents the specific Excel cell checks, calculation formulas and cross-sheet consistency checks the JFSC's system applies, and the error or warning messages a filer will see if a check fails.

  • Data input validation: Each monetary cell in the Local and Non Local columns for items A.1 through B.2 must contain a whole number between -1,000,000,000 and +1,000,000,000 (representing units of £1,000), or the submission triggers a validation error identified by a unique Check number.
  • Calculation checks: Total columns and subtotal/total rows (e.g. A.0, B.0, A.0.1) are auto-calculated by summing the Local and Non Local entries; these are used to verify internal arithmetic consistency of the sheet.
  • Logical checks: The system checks that the overall sum of Sheet 8.4 (cell E30) equals the corresponding balance sheet assets figure on the '2.1 BS Assets' sheet, and that certain difference cells (C31, D31, E31) equal zero; failed checks are highlighted red in the template with an explanatory comment.

The note is purely explanatory of the mechanics of the reporting template's built-in checks; it does not itself create new substantive reporting obligations beyond ensuring the data submitted is internally consistent and reconciles with other parts of the return.

Key obligations

  • OIBs must ensure that monetary figures entered in the '8.4 Lending by Sector' sheet are whole numbers within the range -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000 (in units of £1,000) for each listed item and column.
  • OIBs should check their own data before submission, since Excel's built in validation only checks direct input and is not a failsafe.
  • The total of the 'A' section (cell E30) must equal the corresponding balance sheet assets figure on the '2.1 BS Assets' sheet (cell C40).
  • The difference cells C31, D31 and E31 (comparing sums B.0 and A.0) must each equal zero, meaning the Local, Non Local and Total figures across sections A and B must reconcile.
