Statement of Guidance
Validation and verification of the '8.3 Total Deposits' Sheet (Guidance Note, September 2019)
Status not confirmedView on JFSC's website Source document
Summary
This is a technical guidance note from the JFSC explaining the automated validation and verification checks that run when an OIB (Overseas/other International Bank reporting entity) submits the '8.3 Total Deposits' sheet of its prudential return template. It does not create new reporting obligations but documents how the existing template checks data for errors and internal consistency.
- Input validation: Monetary amount cells (Sterling, Euro, US Dollar, Swiss Franc, Yen and Currency columns for items A.1 to A.9) must contain whole numbers between minus and plus 1,000,000,000 (in units of 1,000), reflecting permitted values up to about plus or minus 1 trillion.
- Blank cells: Certain cells in row B (Euro, US Dollar, Swiss Franc, Yen and Currency columns, cell references D13 to H13) must be left blank.
- Calculation checks: Row A.0 totals (row 12) must equal the sum of items A.1 to A.9 for each currency column, and cell C13 must equal the sum of the currency totals in row 12.
- Cross sheet consistency: The total in cell C13 of the '8.3 Total Deposits' sheet must equal the corresponding figure in cell C10 of the '2.3 BS Liabilities' sheet; a mismatch is flagged as a logical check failure.
- Submission process: On submission of the template, the JFSC's checks run automatically; if all checks pass the submission is accepted and the OIB is notified together with any warnings, while failed checks generate an error message referencing a unique check number matched to this guidance.
The note is a reference tool to help OIBs interpret validation error messages and correct their template entries before or after submission; it does not itself set new filing deadlines or substantive reporting requirements beyond ensuring the template's internal figures reconcile.
Key obligations
- Monetary entries in the '8.3 Total Deposits' sheet (columns for Sterling, Euro, US Dollar, Swiss Franc, Yen and Currency, items A.1-A.9) must be whole numbers within the range -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000.
- Cells D13 to H13 (row B, Euro/US Dollar/Swiss Franc/Yen/Currency columns) must be left blank.
- The total in cell C13 of the '8.3 Total Deposits' sheet must equal the corresponding total in cell C10 of the '2.3 BS Liabilities' sheet.
- OIBs should check their own data before submission, as Excel validation alone is not a failsafe.
