Summary

This guidance note explains the automated validation and verification checks that run when a Jersey International Bank (JIB) submits the '8.4 Lending by Sector' sheet as part of its prudential reporting to the JFSC. It sets out the format of each check, the error message a JIB will see if a check fails, and how to match a failure message back to this guidance using a unique check number.

  • Input validation: Each monetary cell must contain a whole number between -1,000,000,000 and +1,000,000,000 (in units of £1,000); Excel's own validation is not a failsafe, so JIBs must check their own data before submission.
  • Calculation checks: Total columns and subtotal rows (e.g. A.0, B.0, A.0.1) are automatically calculated by summing or differencing the Local and Non Local columns.
  • Logical (cross-sheet) checks: The overall total on the Lending by Sector sheet must equal the corresponding figure on the '2.1 BS Assets' sheet, and the differences between subtotals A.0.1 (Local and Non Local) must equal zero.

The note is purely explanatory: it documents how the JFSC's reporting template validates submitted data and does not itself introduce new reporting obligations beyond ensuring data submitted reconciles internally and against the balance sheet return.

Key obligations

  • JIBs must ensure all monetary entries on the '8.4 Lending by Sector' sheet are whole numbers within the range -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000
  • JIBs must check their own data for accuracy before submission, since Excel's built-in validation is not a failsafe
  • The total on the Lending by Sector sheet (cell E30) must equal the corresponding total on the '2.1 BS Assets' sheet (cell G43)
  • The Local and Non Local subtotal differences (A.0.1) must equal zero, meaning Sum B (B.0) figures must reconcile exactly with Sum A (A.0) figures
