Summary

This guidance note explains the automated validation and verification checks that run when a JIB (Jersey international bank) submits the '6.2 Leverage Ratio' sheet as part of its prudential reporting template to the JFSC. It describes both input validation on manually entered cells and the underlying formulas used for calculated fields, so that reporting staff can interpret error messages and cross-check their figures before and after submission.

  • Input validation: Monetary amount cells only accept whole numbers between -1,000,000,000 and +1,000,000,000 (in units of £1,000), unless otherwise noted.
  • Excel limitations: Excel's own validation only checks direct manual input and is not a failsafe; JIBs must check their own data because the JFSC re-checks all data on submission.
  • Submission process: Submitting the template triggers the JFSC's checks; if all checks pass, the JIB is notified of acceptance along with any warnings.
  • Check identifiers: Each validation test has a unique 'Check' number, sheet, item, cell reference and message, listed in tables so JIBs can match an error to the specific cell and rule.
  • Calculation checks: Section 3 sets out the Excel formulas used for calculated cells (e.g. sums and ratios linking to the '6.1 Capital Adequacy' sheet), against which submitted figures are verified.

The note is purely explanatory guidance on how the reporting template's validation logic works; it does not itself introduce new reporting deadlines or amend substantive capital or leverage ratio requirements.

Key obligations

  • JIBs should check their own data for accuracy before and after entry, since Excel's built in validation is not a failsafe
  • Submitted data must consist of whole numbers within the specified range for input cells (e.g. -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000, unit £1,000) unless otherwise noted
  • JIBs must review any warnings communicated by the JFSC following submission of the template
