Summary

This is a technical guidance note from the JFSC explaining the automated validation and verification checks applied to the '2.2 Credit Summary' sheet of the JIBs prudential reporting template. It sets out how Excel data validation works within the template and lists the specific checks the JFSC's system runs when a JIB submits the return, including error messages that will be generated if checks fail.

  • Input validation: Certain cells in the Credit Summary sheet (columns C, D, E, F at row 12, relating to Standardised Approach, F IRB, A IRB and Trading Book) must be left blank; submission checks will flag these if populated.
  • Calculation checks: Numerous cells contain SUMIF and SUM formulas that pull figures from the '2.1 BS Assets' sheet and total them across approach columns and rows; the JFSC's system verifies these calculated totals on submission.
  • Monetary limits: Monetary amount cells accept only integers between minus 1,000,000,000 and plus 1,000,000,000 (units of GBP 1,000), unless otherwise noted.
  • Submission process: Submitting the template to the JFSC triggers the validation checks; if all checks pass, the submission is accepted and the JIB is notified together with any warnings.

The note is a reference tool to help JIBs interpret error and warning messages received during submission, matching each numbered 'Check' to its underlying rule so reporting entities can correct their data before or after submission.

Key obligations

  • JIBs should check their own data for accuracy before relying on Excel validation, as Excel checks are not a failsafe.
  • Cells identified as 'must be blank' (columns C, D, E, F at row 12 on the 2.2 Credit Summary sheet) must not contain data entries.
  • JIBs must ensure monetary amount cells fall within the permitted range of -1,000,000,000 to +1,000,000,000 (in units of GBP 1,000) unless otherwise noted.
  • JIBs must submit the completed template to the JFSC to trigger validation checks and address any warnings or failed checks indicated in the resulting message before the submission is treated as accepted.
