Notice
Overseas Sale of CI Currency Temporarily Suspended (2021-03-18)
Issued 2021-03-18View on CIMA's website Source document
Summary
This is a short public notice issued by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) on 18 March 2021 announcing that it will temporarily stop processing orders for uncirculated Cayman Islands (CI) banknotes and coins from overseas collectors. The suspension took effect immediately upon publication and remains in place until CIMA announces otherwise.
The notice is addressed to the general public, particularly overseas coin and banknote collectors, rather than to CIMA's regulated financial industry licensees. It does not create ongoing compliance obligations for regulated entities; it simply informs collectors that overseas sales orders for uncirculated currency will not be fulfilled during the suspension period.
Deadlines
- effective immediately and until further notice (from 18 March 2021): CIMA will not process orders for uncirculated CI banknotes and coins from overseas collectors until further notice
