Fraudulent Google Meet Calls Impersonating CIMA (2026-10-08)
Issued 2026-10-08View on CIMA's website Source document
Summary
This is a public alert from CIMA warning that scammers are impersonating the Authority through fraudulent voice phishing (vishing) calls made via WhatsApp or Google Meet, often from overseas numbers. CIMA confirms these calls do not originate from it and that it never uses unsolicited calls or messaging apps to request personal, account, or sensitive information.
- How the scam works: Victims receive an unexpected WhatsApp or Google Meet call from someone claiming to represent CIMA, who asks them to join a virtual meeting or provide information for verification.
- Follow-on risk: If scammers gain account access, they may impersonate the victim to contact their network and request urgent money transfers, including to overseas accounts.
- Public guidance: Do not engage with suspicious calls; verify unsolicited communications through official channels; never share verification codes, passwords, or account details.
- Reporting: Report suspicious activity or CIMA impersonation attempts to abuse@cima.ky, or contact the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service or Cayman Crime Stoppers.
