Template CCTV Surveillance Signage

Summary

This is a template notice published by the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner for organisations to adapt and display where CCTV, other surveillance cameras, or drones are in use. It is guidance only, not a binding legal instrument, and must be customised to the specific circumstances before use.

• Controller details: Space to insert the data controller's organisation name, address, phone number and a data protection contact email
• Purpose: A statement of why recording is carried out, e.g. crime prevention, staff/property protection, or safety monitoring
• Data protection notice: Confirms recording complies with the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018, that footage is kept only as long as necessary, and that access to recordings is restricted
• Individual rights: Notes that individuals have rights of access to their personal data under the DPJL 2018 and directs them to the organisation's Privacy Notice
• Drone use: Optional additional wording where an area may also be monitored by unmanned aerial systems (drones)

Organisations operating CCTV or surveillance systems in Jersey can use this template as a starting point for compliant signage, but must tailor the content, insert their own details, and ensure it accurately reflects their actual recording practices.
