Summary
This is a public warning statement issued by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) alerting the public that SBF or Sterling Bond Fund is a scam entity operating without authorisation in Jersey. It is not a rule or requirement affecting regulated firms, but a fraud alert directed at members of the public and the wider market.
- Falsely claiming a Jersey address: The scam entity claims to trade from Forum House, Grenville Street, St Helier, Jersey, when it does not.
- Unauthorised activity: It is holding out as carrying on investment business and Schedule 2 business (trading in money market instruments such as CFDs and foreign exchange) in Jersey without JFSC authorisation.
- Never registered: The entity has never been registered or applied for registration under the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998 or the Proceeds of Crime (Supervisory Bodies) (Jersey) Law 2008; any such business is a contravention of Article 7 of the FS(J)L and Article 10 of the Supervisory Bodies Law.
- False FCA claim: The entity falsely claims to be regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority.
- Fraud warning signs: Email addresses and correspondence reviewed by JFSC Enforcement display warning signs of being set up for fraudulent purposes.
The JFSC advises anyone who has dealt with the scam entity to contact its Enforcement team, and encourages the public to verify a firm's regulated status and registration via the JFSC website (for Jersey businesses) or the relevant overseas regulator's website (for non-Jersey businesses). A confidential whistleblowing line is also provided for reporting.
