Fraud warning: The Royal Bank of Scotland International Limited and employee impersonation scam (2025-04-30)
Issued 2025-04-30View on JFSC's website Source document
Summary
This is a public fraud warning issued by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) alerting the public to an entity impersonating The Royal Bank of Scotland International Limited, a genuine Jersey-regulated bank. The impersonating entity and associated email addresses have no connection to the real RBS International and are not authorised to conduct deposit-taking or Schedule 2 business in Jersey.
- Impersonation identified: An unauthorised entity is falsely claiming to represent The Royal Bank of Scotland International Limited (RC2304), using fraudulent email domains such as rbs-offshore.com, contact-rbs.com, rbs-jersey.com, invest-rbs.com, and rbs-london.co.uk, among others (list not exhaustive).
- Unauthorised activity: The impersonating entity is carrying on, or holding out as carrying on, deposit-taking business and Schedule 2 business in or from Jersey without JFSC authorisation, in contravention of Article 8 of the Banking Business (Jersey) Law 1991 and Article 10 of the Proceeds of Crime (Supervisory Bodies) (Jersey) Law 1998.
- Verification guidance: Members of the public are advised to use only the official website rbsinternational.com, verify that correspondence uses the official domain @rbsint.com, and consult RBS International's official fraud guidance.
- FCA cross-reference: The notice links to a related FCA warning about a clone firm impersonating the FCA-authorised RBS International entity.
- Reporting: Anyone who has had dealings with the impersonating entity is asked to contact the JFSC's Enforcement team.
This is a warning notice rather than a rule-making instrument; it does not create ongoing compliance obligations for regulated entities but informs the public and industry about a specific fraud risk and encourages reporting of contact with the fraudulent entity.
