Summary
This is the JFSC application form used by an overseas insurance company to apply for a Category A permit under the Insurance Business (Jersey) Law 1996, allowing it to carry on insurance business in or from within Jersey. It is completed by the applicant company and submitted to the Jersey Financial Services Commission, and covers company details, financial and business projections, and (where relevant) motor vehicle liability insurance authorisation.
- Section A: Authorisation and signed declarations confirming the information is accurate, authorising the JFSC to make enquiries of third parties, and acknowledging the offence of providing false or misleading information under Article 38 of the Law.
- Section B: Core company details, including registered office, place and date of incorporation, home regulator and licence details, classes of insurance business held and sought, financial projections for three years (premium income, total income, profit/loss, staffing, customer numbers), and Jersey contact details.
- Section C: Additional information required if the company's home country is outside the UK or EU, including its last return to the home supervisor, agency agreements in Jersey, and actuary details for long term business.
- Section D: Additional requirements for applicants seeking class 10 motor vehicle liability insurance authorisation, including Minister of Transport and Technical Services consent under the Motor Traffic (Third-Party Insurance) (Jersey) Law 1948, Power of Attorney appointment, Motor Insurers' Bureau membership certificate, and consent to share information with the Minister.
- Section E: Completed form is to be returned by email to the JFSC's authorisations address, after which an invoice will be issued.
The form itself does not set out ongoing regulatory obligations beyond the application process, but signatories must undertake to notify the JFSC immediately of any significant change to the information provided, and to cooperate with ongoing enquiries into the applicant's fitness and propriety.
Key obligations

- Applicant must attach supporting documentation where appropriate, including audited accounts, the last annual insurance return with solvency calculation, and a three-year business programme with financial projections
- Applicant must notify the JFSC immediately of any significant change to the information given in the application
- Applicant must provide further information or documents at any time if requested by the JFSC, both before and after submission and pending registration
- If applying for class 10 motor vehicle liability insurance, applicant must complete Section D, obtain Minister of Transport and Technical Services consent, appoint a Jersey resident Power of Attorney, and provide a Motor Insurers' Bureau membership certificate
- Applicant must return the completed form by email to authorisations@jerseyfsc.org, after which an invoice will be issued
