Summary

This document is a reference list published by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) identifying which stock exchanges qualify as 'approved stock exchanges' for purposes of the Regulatory Acts, under CIMA's Regulatory Policy on Approved Stock Exchanges. It is used by regulated entities to determine whether a listing, holding, or counterparty exchange meets CIMA's recognised-exchange criteria for regulatory purposes (e.g. exemptions, classifications, or eligibility tests that reference an 'approved stock exchange').

  • Scope: Lists a large number of named exchanges worldwide (e.g. NYSE, LSE, Nasdaq, Hong Kong Exchange, Cayman Islands Stock Exchange, and many others) as approved.
  • Discretionary approvals: Exchanges marked with an asterisk (e.g. Bolsa de Valores de Caracas, Channel Islands Stock Exchange, Fukuoka Stock Exchange, Nagoya Stock Exchange) are approved on a discretionary basis.
  • Market restructuring note: Notes that as of August 2023, Nuam Exchange became the Regional Holding Exchange integrating the Santiago, Lima, and Colombia Stock Exchanges into a single market.
  • Excluded exchanges: Pursuant to section 5 of the Regulatory Policy, the Tehran Stock Exchange and Moscow Exchange are explicitly stated as not approved stock exchanges.

The list itself does not create new obligations but serves as an operational reference that regulated entities and their advisers should consult when a CIMA regulatory requirement depends on whether a security is listed on an approved stock exchange.

Applies to

banks, trust companies, insurance companies, mutual funds and mutual fund administrators, virtual asset service providers, other CIMA-regulated entities relying on approved stock exchange status
