Summary

This is an advisory notice from the BVI Financial Services Commission informing the public that the Somalia (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment) Order 2013 (UKSI 2013 No. 1443) has been extended to the British Virgin Islands. The Order amends the Somalia (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2012, which implements UN Security Council sanctions on Somalia.

  • What the Order does: Amends the Principal Order (S.I. 2012/3065) to reflect changes to the arms embargo introduced by UNSCR 2093 (2013) and corresponding EU measures under Council Decision 2010/231/CFSP and Council Regulation 147/2003.
  • Licensing provision: Amends the article allowing Governors of Overseas Territories to license certain activities otherwise prohibited under the sanctions regime, in line with exemptions.
  • Purpose of the advisory: Serves purely as public notice of the ratification and extension of the Order to the Territory; it does not itself set out new compliance procedures beyond the underlying sanctions regime.

The notice is informational, directing readers to the full text of the Order and related UN Security Council resolutions and EU instruments for detail. It does not impose new filing, reporting or licensing deadlines beyond the general requirement to comply with the Somalia sanctions regime as amended.
