Summary
This is a public advisory notice issued by the BVI Financial Services Commission informing the public that The Burma (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2013 (UKSI 2013 No. 1447) has been extended to the British Virgin Islands. It does not itself impose new filing or reporting duties on regulated entities; it simply notifies the public of the legal effect of the Order.
- Extension: The Order was ratified on 13 June 2013 and extended to the BVI under Schedule 1 to the Order.
- Effect: It gives effect in the Overseas Territories to EU sanctions on Burma applied by Council Decision 2013/184/CFSP.
- Scope of remaining sanctions: The EU decision of 22 April 2013 revoked most Burma sanctions but retained the embargo on supplying arms and related materiel or equipment usable for internal repression, and the prohibition on providing related technical and military assistance.
- Superseded instruments: This Order revokes and replaces the Burma (Restrictive Measures) (Overseas Territories) Order 2009 and the Burma (Restrictive Measures) (Overseas Territories) (Suspension) Order 2012 as previously extended to the Territory.
