Summary
This is a short commencement notice made by Bermuda's Minister of Economic Development under section 52 of the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA). It brings only a limited set of PIPA sections into force on a specified date, rather than commencing the whole Act.
- Sections commenced: Sections 1, 2, 26, 27, 28, 29, 35, 36, 51 and 52 of the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 came into operation on 2 December 2016.
- Effect: Only these listed provisions are activated by this notice; the remainder of PIPA is not brought into force by this instrument.
- Nature of instrument: It is a purely commencement mechanism, made and dated 29 November 2016, with no substantive obligations of its own beyond fixing the operative date for the named sections.
There is no ongoing compliance requirement created directly by this notice; its practical effect is procedural, marking when the specified PIPA sections became legally operative.
